About this game
The market bell rings and the bazaar comes alive. Each round a new merchant throws open their stall with six words for sale, and behind every word sits a hidden treasure. A gold piece, a diamond, maybe the Genie's Lamp itself. Buy your words, weave every one of them into a single perfect sentence, and watch the reveals stack up while the class holds its breath. But some days a thief is working the market!
How to play
- 1Divide the class into teams and give each team a mini-whiteboard.
- 2Every team starts the game with 1 gold.
- 3Each round a merchant opens their stall with six words from the lesson, all priced at 1 gold.
- 4Teams take turns buying one word per pass, and a team must read a word aloud to buy it.
- 5Every purchase raises that word's price by 1 gold for the next team who wants it.
- 6Teams continue until no team wants to buy or can afford to, and any team who starts the round with no gold takes one word free.
- 7Every team then writes a single sentence containing every word they bought.
- 8The teacher checks each teams sentence.
- 9A correct sentence reveals the treasure behind each of that team's words, paying 1 gold for a gold piece, 3 for a diamond and 5 for the Genie's Lamp.
- 10A wrong sentence loses every gold that team spent this round, and nothing behind their words is ever revealed.
- 11On some days a thief is hiding behind one of the words, and every team who bought that word loses their winnings for the round.
- 12At the end the richest team in the bazaar wins!
